What Residents Say About Recovery
Rehabilitation Frequently Asked Questions
Do you accept direct admissions for senior rehabilitation?
Yes. Avalon Health Center welcomes direct admissions for senior rehabilitation in Mystic – for both StoneRidge residents and non-residents coming directly from area hospitals or home. Our team coordinates the admission process to make the transition as smooth as possible. StoneRidge residents receive priority over non-residents.
What is physical therapy?
Physical therapy at Avalon focuses on building strength, improving balance, increasing range of motion, and boosting endurance. It helps reduce pain, restore mobility, and shorten recovery time – particularly after orthopedic surgery such as hip or knee replacement.
What is occupational therapy?
Occupational therapy helps patients regain the ability to perform specific daily activities that have become difficult due to injury, illness, or surgery. Our occupational therapists work on motor skills and adaptive techniques to help patients accomplish everyday tasks – such as dressing, eating, or household activities – with greater ease and confidence.
What is speech therapy?
Our speech therapy program helps patients improve articulation, comprehension of spoken and written language, swallowing function, and memory. Speech therapy is especially beneficial for patients recovering from stroke, head injury, or neurological conditions such as ALS or multiple sclerosis.
Can I continue rehabilitation as an outpatient after my inpatient stay?
Yes. Once inpatient therapy is complete, patients can continue their senior rehab program through Avalon Health Center's outpatient services, which are available seven days a week. Outpatient rehabilitation is also available to patients in the broader community who are recovering at home.
